When creating end-user documentation you need to consider all kinds of things. Where will this documentation live, will your knowledge base be attached to a ticketing system - if so which one? How will you manage version control for the documents or the project of writing it all?
A consult is an hour-long meeting between you and a technical writing expert to discuss your end-user documentation and any questions you have.

A consult is your chance to ask an expert questions about your end-user documentation and software help center. Our experts have written hundreds of software help articles, video scripts, and product tours. Read through the sections below to understand what is and isn't covered in a consult.
Every consult is unique based on your needs, but after every consultation, you’ll receive a Meeting Summary and Roadmap.
The summary will contain a brief overview of everything discussed, naming the problems you were looking to solve, the solutions identified, and some suggested steps forward.
We specialize in working with SaaS companies who want to create end-user documentation for their users. Here’s a general list of things we can help with:
- Getting Started – You know you need a help center and just don’t know where to start. We can provide a roadmap.
- Finding Software – We can recommend help center software and project management software that previous clients raved about.
- Structuring Your Help Center – Get advice on how to organize your help center articles into categories and subcategories.
- Picking Articles – Know what kinds of articles you absolutely must include in your help center.
- Hiring Decisions – Helping you determine if you should hire a contractor or write your help center internally.
- Scoping Projects – Discussion about if we’re a good fit to start a project together and if you’re team is ready to launch a project yet.
We’ll try and help the best we can during consults, but there are some things we just don’t specialize in and that can’t be fit into a consult:
- API Documentation
- Software Configuration
- Videography
- Market Research
- Documentation for Physical Products
- Help Desk Ticketing
- Market Copy
Reschedules: Life happens and we understand. Let us know at least 1 hour before the meeting, and we’ll send you a reschedule link. Each consult comes with a complementary 1 time reschedule so long as you give some kind of notice.
No-Shows: If we don’t hear from you and you’re more than 15 minutes late to a consult, it will be considered a No-Show and the consultation will not happen. Please note there are no refunds for consultations. If there were extenuating circumstances and you contact us within 24 hours of the missed consult, you may be able to reschedule.
Cancellation: If you cancel a consult, after purchasing, you will not be able to receive a refund. All booking fees are final, please make sure you want to schedule a call before investing your money.
We know that our no-refund policy seems a little scary, and that’s why we’ve tried to keep the cost of consults to a minimum.
Many times clients find that all they needed was a consult with a professional to go ahead with their project. The help we provided during that consult will pay for itself tenfold as the project begins. Sometimes you may even find that you're not actually ready for a documentation project and can save yourself time and money on half-baked articles.
That being said, consults aren't required. If one of our other services seems like what you need, go ahead and get started with them!
